City of La Crosse Launches Zoning Survey to Gather Input on Future Development and Neighborhood Character

City of La Crosse Launches Zoning Survey to Gather Input on Future Development and Neighborhood Character

La Crosse, WI (May 2025) – The City of La Crosse is inviting community input through a survey as part of the Forward La Crosse Zoning Code Update, an 18-month initiative to modernize the city’s zoning and subdivision regulations. This effort aims to support a more vibrant, resilient, and livable community.

A zoning code is a set of rules regulating how land can and cannot be used. Zoning divides a community into different districts, like residential, commercial, and industrial. These districts determine the type of structures that can be built, where, and how. Zoning impacts many aspects of our everyday lives and how we move about our city. Navigating the zoning code, however, is a complicated process and can impose obstacles to needed change.

The 10-minute survey is one of many ways the public can share thoughts and influence the direction of this project. By participating, the public can help ensure La Crosse’s zoning code reflects the needs and values of its residents, business owners, and stakeholders.
