Coon Creek Community Watershed Council Brings On Sydney Widell as Watershed Coordinator

Coon Valley, WI: Sydney Widell, a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate specializing in Freshwater and Marine Science, has assumed the role of Watershed Coordinator with the Coon Creek Community Watershed Council (CCCWC).

Sydney has gained valuable insight into the Coon Creek Watershed from her involvement in the Oral Narrative Project. This initiative, known as the Learning to Make Running Water Walk Oral Narrative Project, is a collaborative effort between the Coon Creek Community Watershed Council Inc., UW-Madison faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students, as well as the UW-La Crosse Oral History Program. Its purpose is to document oral narratives from watershed residents, exploring the historical, current, and future perspectives on conservation and flooding in the Coon Creek Watershed.

Sydney is eager to bring her experience in freshwater science and science writing to this position. Raised in Shorewood, WI, along the shores of Lake Michigan, she recently earned a degree in Freshwater and Marine Science at UW-Madison, focusing on the connections between flooding and restoration in Driftless streams. Beyond her work with the CCCWC, Sydney finds joy in activities such as running, biking, baking bread, and knitting.
