Viroqua, Wisconsin: As the holiday season approaches, the Viroqua Food Co+op reminds shoppers of the importance of buying local, including groceries. Supporting local businesses, like the Viroqua Food Co-op, helps to strengthen the community and economy. With  225 local and organic producers and suppliers within a 100-mile radius, the Viroqua Food Co+op offers a unique opportunity to shop for products grown and produced in the Driftless Region.

The Viroqua Food Co+op’s mission combines a commitment to natural foods, superior  customer service, and the building of a cooperative business. They emphasize organic and local foods and products, to promote the long-term health of individuals and the environment. As member-owners and as a center for community the co-op offers the opportunity  to create together a work of enduring value.

As a consumer-owned co-op, the Viroqua Food Co-op is owned by over 5000 community members, but you do not have to be an owner to shop there. While everyone is welcome to shop, ownership comes with some pretty great benefits. Owner Extras 10% Off Co+op Deals Program saves co-op owners over $100,000 annually, taking a big bite out of rising food costs.

A vital hub for local food, the Viroqua Food Co+op sold $3.4 million in products from over 225 local farmers and producers in 2024, accounting for 31% of its overall sales. Additionally, the co-op’s annual microloan program supports local producers by funding infrastructure improvements, ensuring the sustainability of the region’s food systems.

Through its Give Where You Live (GWYL) round-up program, the co-op raised over $54,000 for community organizations in 2024, bringing the total contributions to local schools and nonprofits to over $250,000 since the program began.

“When you shop at the Viroqua Food Co+op, you contribute to our local economy and community,” said Jennifer McCoy, Marketing Manager of the Viroqua Food Co+op. “Purchasing here goes beyond just buying groceries, it supports  225 local farmers and producers, fosters sustainable agricultural practices, and funds community initiatives like our Give Where You Live program. Your choice to shop local creates a ripple effect of positive change, ensuring a vibrant, resilient Driftless Region.”

As the co-op approaches its 30-year anniversary in 2025, it continues to champion initiatives that celebrate its values. Recent videos, available on its YouTube channel, highlight key themes such as “Farm to Table,” “Friendly Service from People You Know,” “Everything on Your List,” “Wellness Focus,” and “Community Owned.”

The Viroqua Food Co+op invites shoppers to support the local economy this holiday season by choosing locally sourced groceries and gifts, making a positive impact on the Driftless Region.
